Coming In Red Hot! By Adara Enthaler

Coming In Red Hot! By Adara Enthaler

The other day I Spring-cleaned my makeup drawer (I never thought I’d be one of those people, but here we are), and found no less than five bright red lipsticks of almost the exact same shade. There’s just something about that classic bright red that goes with almost every outfit, whether casual or formal, winter or summer, which is why I threw none of those lipsticks out.

My love for the classic red is also the reason I’m excited for the beautiful Rockabilly Gal Dress on its way to Ponyboy from Canadian company Happy Yellow Dress. The dress is the very epitome of cute, with white polkadots, rounded short sleeves, and two skirt pockets! I’m a sucker for a dress with pockets, as I’m sure any woman sick of handbags would be.

The Rockabilly Dress is unique from any other dress currently in the Ponyboy range in that it has a subtle Western cowgirl vibe, with its piping lined yoke, horseshoe snaps, and belt façade around the waist. It’s the ideal dress to do something wistfully endearing, like lying in a field with a wheat stalk between your teeth, or apple picking with a wicker basket (or without one, since it has those magical pockets).

I can easily imagine wearing it with a pair of combat boots to a gig, or with flats to a farmers market, or with a pair of equally bright red heels to a wedding, posing on vintage cars and whatnot (hint hint, someone take me to a wedding). My point is, it can be dressed up or down, and if you bought this, you could wear it to every occasion short of an evening ball.

It’s currently available  from sizes XS to XXL, and it’s sure as hell on my wishlist. It’s only the first of what is sure to be many more beautiful designs from Happy Yellow Dress. If you’re as much in love with this dress as I am, consider completing the outfit from the Ponyboy website with some Velvet Heart Studs in red or black, and some vintage style sunglasses for all those sunny meadows we’re sure to be frolicking in with this dress.

And if you don’t have any red lipstick, what are you even doing? Have one of mine.

Being Serene by Adara Enthaler

Serene first thought of creating Ponyboy after having her first son. She had the dream of creating a shopping experience that was personalised and intimate: to create an atmosphere akin to trying on clothes at a friend’s house over a glass of wine (or three) and rocking out to excellent records. If you’re already a Ponyboy customer, you’ll know she nailed it.

The Belle of the Ball by Adara Enthaler
The Belle of the Ball by Adara Enthaler

I visited Ponyboy in April looking for a birthday dress with my eyes set on The Trixie Doll Dress, a figure-hugging red number with a plunging neckline. I tried it on, and it did look sexy, but there was something about the tightness that made me uncomfortable. That was when the lovely Serene suggested the Belle Dress. I was dubious at first of the ruched panel across the bust; wouldn’t it completely hide my god given gifts? But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dress actually complimented my chest: the stretchy material and sweetheart neckline conformed to my shape whilst rising high enough that I wouldn’t be showing cleavage unless I wanted to.

Danger Curves Ahead!
Danger Curves Ahead!

It’s no secret that fashion does not favour the female form. If you have dimensions bigger than a coat rack, you’ll have noticed by now that it’s nearly impossible to find clothes that fit every part of you perfectly. If it’s wide enough, it’s too long. If it leaves room for your assets, it sags around your waist. This is doubly true for us curvy ladies.
